The sense of smell is very powerful and certain scents have inspired a range of feelings.
Imagine the smell of fresh baked cookies right out of the oven or steaks on the grill.
It makes sense that specific scents could also work as natural sleep aids.
English lavender has always been used in folklore as a sleep aid and for good reason.
Research studies have begun to prove that lavender does have sedative like qualities.
They have shown that introducing the smell of lavender to a sleep environment will lengthen sleep time, increase the amount of deep sleep, and people will wake up feeling more refreshed.
Studies have shown that women react more to the introduction of lavender.
This is most likely due to the fact that women possess a more acute sense of smell then men.
There are no known side effects to placing lavender scents in the bedroom.
It is an organic solution to sleeping problems.
The greatest benefit to lavender seems to be how quickly it can work.
It is also fairly simple to try for yourself as well.
Placing a small lavender sachet under your pillow or putting a few drops of lavender oil on a cloth and placing it near the bed are great ways to test it.
Using it while taking a bath can better prepare the body for sleep, though a warm bath has its own benefit to sleep as the lower body temperature makes it easier to sleep.
Chamomile and ylang ylang have also been found to help easy sleep.
No matter what natural sleep aids you decide are good for you, make sure to do research on everything available from pills to mental exercises to aromatherapy.
What will work for one person may not work for you and you need to find what makes you most comfortable when it comes to helping you fall asleep.
