    Fairy Lights

    • With several egg crates, LED lights, scissors and craft paint you can transform an egg crate into a textured light fixture. Start by cutting away the cups of your egg crate, leaving the support strips intact, then separate the cups. Where the cup opens, cut short slits on the sides to form flower petals and then cut a small hole in the bottom. Paint each flower or leave natural. Insert LED lights into the base of the flower and hang the lights on mirrors, banisters or dressers.

    Starter Seeds

    • An egg crate can be a good tool to start your own vegetable, herb or flower garden. Poke holes in the bottom of each cup. Fill the cups with potting soil, thoroughly water the soil and press seeds into the middle of each cup. Use Popsicle sticks or toothpicks to mark the different types of flowers, herbs and vegetables. Water and provide sunlight based on the instructions for your particular seeds.

    Egg Crate Critters

    • Help your kids create their own egg crate critters. You will need scissors, paint, craft glue, wiggly eyes, a hole punch and pipe cleaners. Cut individual cups from the egg crates and paint with your desired color. Using a hole punch, punch three holes on each side of the cup. Run your pipe cleaners through the holes to form the legs. With craft glue apply wiggly eyes to the front of your critter.

    Egg Crate Flower Bouquet

    • For Mother's Day help kids create a flower bouquet. You will need paint and paint brushes, green pipe cleaners, construction paper in the colors of your flowers, a small milk jug, scissors, glue and wide ribbon. Start by cutting each egg crate into individual cups and poking holes in the bottoms. Paint the cups and allow to dry fully. Insert a green pipe cleaner through the bottom of each cup and twist at the top so it is secured. Use the construction paper to cut out leaves, and cut holes in each one so that it can slide up your pipe cleaner stem. Place finished flowers in an old milk jug, and tie the jug with a wide ribbon bow to finish it off.
