How to Keep a Clothesline From Sagging

    • 1). Tighten the clothesline cord, wrapping it around the top of the clothesline pole or the trunk of the tree for better support. If the line is old and worn, replace it with a steel-core cord, which will provide better support and wear.

    • 2). Make sure the poles or trees are not too close together, causing the line to sag. If necessary, dig a hole, and move one of the poles farther back.

    • 3). Hang heavier items near the poles or trees and lighter items in the middle to avoid sagging.

    • 4). Prop up the clothesline with one or two forked poles, placed between the clothing while it is drying. These can be made from branches or purchased at a hardware store.

    • 5). Purchase a clothesline kit at a hardware store, which includes pulleys and tighteners that allow you to pull the cord up and avoid sagging while clothes dry.
