    • 1). Follow the "Resources" link below to the AVG website if your computer doesn't already have another virus removal program installed. Download the AVG anti-virus software and then run the installation file.

      Clicking the System Protection Link

      Open the "Start" menu bar at the bottom corner of the desktop. Access the "Control Panel" link and then double-click on the "System" option. Click on the link at the left side of the screen named "System Protection."

      Removing the System Restore Check Marks

      Scroll to the "Automatic System Restore Points" heading at the bottom of the window. Remove each of the check marks underneath the heading by clicking on the check boxes. Click on "Apply" once all the check marks have been removed.

      The New Menu Options

      Go back to the "Start" menu and then choose the "Restart" option. Wait for your computer to go through its restarting process and you see the logo of your computer's manufacturer on the screen. Press the "F8" key repeatedly until a new set of menu options appears on the monitor.

      Updating the Anti-Virus Software

      Highlight the "Safe Mode" option in the new menu screen and then press the "Enter" key. Open your anti-virus software after the operating system finishes loading. Click on the "Update Now" button and then wait for the virus updates to finish downloading.

      Scanning for the Win32.Parite.b Virus

      Click on the anti-virus program's "Computer Scan" button and then choose the option to scan your computer's hard drive for infections. Select the "Remove Problems" option when the virus scan has finished searching your hard drive.

      Opening the Registry Editor

      Exit the anti-virus program and then return to the "Start" menu. Open the search feature and then search for the word "Regedit." Double-click the icon for the registry editor when it appears in the search results area.

      Navigate to the registry folder named "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer." Find the registry entry on the right side of the screen labeled "PINF." Right-click on the entry and then click on "Delete."

    • 9). Close the registry editor and then restart your computer. Go back to the "System Protection" menu and then re-check each of the "System Restore Point" boxes. Click on "Apply."
