How to Draw Your Own Uniform

    • 1). Begin with a drawing of a male or female fashion figure. Fashion figures are more elongated than a realistic figure. Start with the shoulders and body then add the legs, arms, neck and head.

    • 2). Sketch your uniform on the figure. An example is a girl's school uniform. Draw the skirt first. To make pleats, draw a zigzag line for the bottom of the skirt. Draw several lines from the waistline of the skirt to the points of the zigzag hem.

    • 3). Draw a button down shirt. Sketch a line down the center of the body starting right below the nape of the neck. Draw another line parallel to that one and add the buttons in the center of the line.

    • 4). Add the collar of the shirt. Draw a 'V' from the top of the buttons upward toward the ears. Then connect the top of the V to the shoulders at both sides. Draw two lines toward the back of the neck from the top of the collar to the neck. Draw two more lines connecting the center of the shirt to the outside of the collar.

    • 5). Draw two lines to show the shoulder seam. Draw the sleeves a little wider than the arms then finish them at the wrist with a small hem and one or two buttons on the outside.

    • 6). Cover the shirt with a vest. Draw a deeper V neck and two more shoulder seams, slightly narrower than the shirt sleeves. Fill in the vest with a dark color like black or navy blue.

    • 7). Color the skirt with navy, black or tan. Leave the shirt white. Add two lines for knee high socks and draw the shoes. Usually school girl uniforms require ballet flats or simple lace-up black shoes. Add a school decal to the vest or leave it plain.

    • 8). Finish the fashion figure by adding skin tone, hair and facial features. If you are drawing a uniform other than a school girl uniform, use a reference photo of your uniform or look at your uniform while you draw it.
