Why Choose Glass Splashbacks And Worktops Rather Than Traditional Materials?

Something clear is happening in kitchens across the UK.
So clear that it's almost transparent.
Glass splashbacks, and even glass worktops, are starting to appear in homes across the country.
But is it just a fashion trend? Is it simply because it's a reasonably new idea, and something not seen much before? Is it popular because it comes with a large price tag, or because it's exclusive? In fact, glass splashbacks are appearing in new build properties, renovated properties and redecorated kitchens, and whilst many people choose them because they're popular and stylish and look good, the benefits go much deeper than this.
They say that beauty should be more than skin deep, and with glass splashbacks you can see a lot further than the beauty on the surface, as the glass allows an array of refractions and reflections to bring the whole of the work surface and worktop alive with light and colour.
Glass splashbacks may be a trend, but that's not the reason why so many people are choosing them.
Ultimately people tend to consider kitchens as very practical rooms, and therefore rather demanding.
Kitchens don't tend to be places where frivolous decisions are made.
Everything from the type of cooker to the crockery is carefully thought about and chosen with many considerations in mind.
Glass splashbacks and glass worktops are being chosen by people because they offer a range of real advantages which go far deeper than the beauty on the surface.
But whilst there are many advantages to glass worktops, it would be absurd to gloss over the fact that they are supremely stylish, trendy and fashionable.
But this isn't just because they're made of glass.
The fact that they're made of glass, and the fact that they're made in the way they are, means that the end result is simply stunning.
With a choice of frosted glass, coloured glass, tinted glass or clear glass which has a back colour applied to the underside or reverse side, the glass worktops and surfaces can provide a vast range of looks and effects.
Frosted glass work surfaces or splashbacks with integrated LED lighting provide the coolest look, reminiscent of the most exclusive bars and clubs in Europe, or the most lavish hotel reception areas.
The look is one of class, simplicity and elegant chic design.
But with modern manufacturing methods allowing glass worktops and splashbacks to be made with no end of curves, ripples, grooves, cutouts and integrated features such as drainage channels and integrated lighting, there really is no end to the way the surfaces look.
There are few other materials as versatile as glass when it comes to creating unique, eye catching designs which work with your kitchen and with the ways in which you use your kitchen to create a look that's modern, stylish and still eminently functional.
And while on the subject of functionality, it should be noted that compared to almost any other kitchen work surface material, glass is able to withstand the heat of any kitchen.
There's no doubt that the kitchen is the one room in the average house which receives the harshest treatment.
From heavy pots and pans to scalding liquids, spitting fats, acidic juices, staining foods, sharp knives and meat tenderisers, the kitchen is almost a warzone.
Work surfaces therefore have to be able to withstand this sort of daily treatment.
Can glass splashbacks and glass worktops hold up to this sort of regime? It's worth remembering that most professional chopping boards are made of toughened glass - and only around 4-6mm thick.
Glass splashbacks and surfaces are often up to 19mm thick, and astonishingly tough.
You couldn't scratch it or damage if you tried - unless you happen to tenderise your meet by driving a tank over it or carve the joint using an industrial chain saw.
Glass splashbacks certainly do look trendy, but it's far from being this reason alone which is responsible for the trend becoming so widespread in the first place.
