Temporarily Homeless - Where to Stay During Renovations

103 74
Your entire living room and kitchen has been transformed into a construction site.
There are plastic dust covers on all of your furniture and the smell of sawdust hangs in the air.
Everything has been packed into boxes, the fridge has been unplugged for a week, you ordered pizza last night and you have to plug the kettle into the socket in the corridor to boil water.
All throughout the day, builders, plumbers and electricians in their big boots go clomping across your floors and the loud angry 'buzz' of a drill or the sharp 'ka-thunk' of a nail gun interrupts your peaceful morning coffee.
Living through a major home remodel can be very stressful and it involves having to adjust your routines and live within a lot of stress, noise and mess.
Let's Get Out of Here! You are excited about seeing your finished home renovations, but you have had just about enough of living in chaos.
Perhaps it is time to retreat somewhere else so that you can live in comfort while the rest of the building work is completed.
Get a specific schedule and end date from your contractor (then add another week on just to be safe) so you know how long you need to stay away.
You can set up somewhere else for a while to get some peace and quiet, while checking in with the renovations frequently.
You might have some nearby friends or family who are willing to let you stay in their home for a while.
However, if your renovations will take several weeks this can really test your bond as you will inevitably step on each other's toes.
Sometimes it is worth it for the sake of the relationship to get your own accommodation.
Choose the Right Accommodation If you are planning to stay somewhere else while your home is being remodelled, make sure that you choose somewhere suitable so that it will be a positive experience.
Attempting to fit your family of four into a small hotel room for three weeks is going to cause a lot of headaches and cabin fever, no matter how much you love each other.
A better option can be renting a short term serviced apartment.
These are one, two or three bedroom apartments that can be rented by the day, week or month.
When you rent them by the week or month they can be cheaper than a hotel and they will usually offer you more space.
A serviced apartment will usually offer you all of the appliances that you have at home, such as a washer, dryer and kitchen appliances.
This will ensure that you can carry on your usual family routine in convenience and comfort.
There is no need to live within a noisy, dusty and disruptive construction zone if you don't want to, so go ahead and stay somewhere else while the professionals do all the work so that you can come home to a beautifully renovated home.
