Pizzas are a fun food to eat and they can be made with so many different toppings the results are nearly endless.
Pizzas are also great for eating with the hands making them perfect for parties or for small children who have not yet mastered the use of the knife and fork.
However, in some areas, it is perfect acceptable and even encouraged to eat pizza with utensils but most of us find that to be a bit too proper for the casual dish.
Pizza certainly boasts a long and colorful history and it has become one of the most often eaten foods in the US in the last century as although they were created across the Atlantic, pizzas have become about as American as apple pies.
Long before the days of the neighborhood pizza parlor or large franchise of pizza places scattered around the country were local bakers peddling their wares to lower and working class residents on the side of dirt roads in Italy.
Once royalty got wind of this new and delicious dish word of its simplicity and flavor soon spread far and wide.
Italian immigrants eventually brought their creation to the new world, but several hundred years before that the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and other Middle Eastern cultures first baked unleavened breads seasoned with olive oil in crude mud ovens.
Then, as more herbs and spices were discovered they were then used for adding flavor to these primitive pizzas.
Today we serve pizzas both hot and cold but the most popular way is steaming hot and fresh from the oven, although cold pizza for breakfast is a favorite treat of many people.
Pizzas are most commonly enjoyed by the slice and using a pizza cutter helps to create even cuts without ripping all the toppings or cheeses from the top.
Square or rectangular pizzas are cut in square shaped pieces while round pies are cut into triangular shapes.
Eating pizzas will not require the use of any fine China and sturdy paper plates will usually suffice.
You will, however, usually need plenty of napkins especially if your pizzas are loaded with toppings.
Most of us like to hold the crust and start at the narrow end of the slice but some prefer folding the piece over in half before eating.
Pizzas are one of those great dishes that don't require any side dishes for it to be a complete meal, but that doesn't mean you can't serve a few if you like.
Salads in many varieties are perfect for eating along with pizzas as the cold contrast nicely offsets the hot main course.
Some other appetizers you may want to eat along with pizzas are fried mushrooms and zucchini, mozzarella cheese sticks, onion rings, nachos, or stuffed jalapeno poppers.
Pizzas can also be served with various beverages but a few top the list of the preferred drinks of choice including ice tea, milk, and soda pop.
Beer and red wine are also enjoyed with pizzas but you can wash down the versatile dish with any of your favorite beverages.
