- 1). Choose your chatroom wisely. If you are an adult looking to make friends you do not want to go to a site frequented by adolescent boys. And if you are a teenager you wouldn't want to chat on a site for old-age pensioners. So select a site that looks as though it is pitched at your age, and interest range.
- 2). Create a descriptive biography. Chatrooms will allow you to create a biography for yourself, and the more information you give about your interests and personality the more chance someone will feel like they could be friends with you.
- 3). Look at other users' biographies. This will give you an idea of their interests and whether they share the common ground which would make them a good choice for a friend.
- 4). Use a webcam while chatting. If you can actually see the person you are talking to then it eliminates any security concerns, or the feeling they could be telling lies about themselves. It also creates a feeling of having a real conversation with a potential friend, rather than typing away to a stranger.
