A dog that bites will never end up with a happy ending.
It can quickly lead to a broken relationship between the puppy and the owner, as well as family, friends, neighbors, and mailmen.
And it can even lead to the sad, tragic death of the dog.
Luckily, stopping them from biting isn't all that hard.
First, you have to determine whether the puppy is looking to play.
They are born with a playful instinct, and sometimes they get carried away and bit a little too hard.
This is called "mouthing" and should be ignored, because it was only meant in playful banter.
If they have crossed the line between mouthing and biting, in other words, they just mouthed a little too hard for your tastes, simply let out a quick yelp and say "ouch!" This is a technique that they instinctively know because that is what their mother would do to teach them to not play so hard.
You also have to understand why they are biting.
If you don't know the reason behind a problem, you cannot truly fix it.
There are three basic reasons why a dog bites, and it is your job to figure out which one of the three is causing the issue.
The three basic reasons are defense or fear, dominance, or pain.
Instinctively, when a dog experiences these feelings, they are much more likely to bite someone who comes across their path.
In order to stop the biting, first you have to find out whether they are playing or actually biting.
Then, you have to figure out which one of the three basic feelings the dog is feeling, then remove the dog or remove the cause from the situation.
