Taking a holiday in Minsk, the capital of Belarus is like going back in time to the Orwellian Soviet-era society where the clock stopped in the 1960s. Packed with ancient history, this place is the perfect spot for a holiday in Europe.
Minsk has a lot of things to do and see for the keenest travelers. Their major attractions in the city include National Arts Museum of the Republic of Belarus, Palats Mastatsva (Art Palace), Mastatsky Salon, Former Residence of Lee Harvey Oswald, Saint Peter & Saint Paul Church, Minskoe More (Minsk Sea), and some of the best Skiing resorts. The Belarusian Opera and Ballet Theatre is also one of the known places among travelers. Built between 1934 and 1939, this Belarusian Opera and Ballet Theatre is also known as National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus.

Town Hall, a building that stands in the center of Minsk dates back to 1499 when the city received the so called Magdeburg Law. This building was built by stones and was rebuilt in Classicism style by the architect Fyodor Kramer at the end of the 18th century. Central Botanical Gardena and Dudutki Museum are some of the theme parks located in the city. If you are someone who would like to dive into the architectural beauty of the city, then a visit to Lenin Sculpture, KGB Building, Alexander Pushkin Monument, Lenin Avenue and The City Gates is a must. The gastronomic travelers to the city also have plenty of nice restaurants to dine in. Il Patio, Petjki Lavotjki, T.G.I. Fridays, Varadero, Ispanskij Kutok, Byblos, Gurman and Restauran-bistro Lido are among a few. Shopoholis can also find a good deal in the city. Although it doesn't offer such a range of goods as major Russian cities like Moscow or St Petersburg and it doesn't have all the chain stores that are likely to be found elsewhere in Europe, yet it has some amazing shopping destinations. Prospekt Nezavisimosti and the Dinamo market are the two popular places where shopaholics stop!
Party lovers also find some of the best night clubs in the city which are usually open till five in the morning and casinos are open 24 hours. West World Club, Alcatraz, Max Show, Rakovsky Brovar and Reaktor are a few recommended ones.
Minsk has a well developed transport network to make you easily accessible to all the above places. Minsk subway, taxis, buses and trams are the popular modes of transport in the city. Minsk international airport is located about 70 kilometers outside Minsk. It also has a direct train connection from Minsk to Riga, Vilnius, St Petersburg, Moscow, Kiev and Warszawa. The best time for a travel to Minsk can be during the warm summer months when the streets are lively and the outdoor cafes open their doors. Summers sometimes also tend to be the wettest season, so it is wise to pack an umbrella as well.
