How to Choose Adirondack Chairs

    • 1). Sit in the chair you want to buy. See whether it is comfortable. If it is made from wood, you will want to look it over carefully to see whether the seat has splinters. Check to see whether the slats fit tight or pinch your skin when you sit down. Recline in the chair and see whether there is an adequate amount of support for your back or whether you seem to sink too far.

    • 2). Pick up the chair and move it. Try to get a feel for how solid it is. This will also give you an idea of how hard the chair will be to move once you get it home. Check the arms of the chair to see that they are firmly attached and do not wiggle.

    • 3). Look at the finish of your chair. See whether there is any peeling paint or obvious sun damage. If you are purchasing this chair from an auction or flea market, ask whether lead-based paint was used to finish the chair. If this is the case, you will want to have this paint professionally removed.

    • 4). Find out whether the chair is covered by any warranties and what the return policy of the retailer is. See whether he will offer a discount if you purchase more than one item or for a larger items, such as a swing. Ask whether this is seasonal merchandise or offered year-round in case you may want to add an additional piece to your collection in a couple of months.

    • 5). Decide how you will take your new purchase home. Ask the salesperson about delivery options if you are unable to haul it in your vehicle. If you have chosen a folding model, you will probably be lucky enough to be able to take the chair home even if you are driving a small sedan.
