Monument Circle Christmas Lighting Ceremony
The Circle of Lights, Indianapolis's traditional lighting of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, referred to by some as the world's tallest Christmas "tree," will take place Friday, Nov. 27, on Monument Circle downtown. Live entertainment will begin at 6 p.m. on the circle, and the lighting of the monument will take place at approximately 7:45 p.m.
Over 100,000 spectators are expected to attend this year's ceremony.
Fifty-two strands of lights will be strung vertically from the top of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument to its base, for a total of 4,784 lights. Twenty-six larger-than-life soldiers and sailors, 26 peppermint sticks, and another 90,000 lights will surround the monument. Santa's workshop will be the theme of the stage on which this year's festivities will take place.
