Interview with Amber Tamblyn at the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" Premiere
Amber Tamblyn on Bonding with the Cast of "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" and How They Became a Sisterhood: "We hung out a lot together. We went and saw films together. It was really actually quite easy. I think we were all very subconsciously connected in knowing that we needed to make it important, and therefore it just became important and it worked. Everybody had a lot of respect for each other.
I think respect is the most important thing you can have."
Amber Tamblyn on What Sets "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" Apart: "I think that this book gets a lot of things right about young women. I think that it doesn?t clone them as being hateful of each other. To me that?s very important. When you think about films for young women, they?re only entertaining if the girls are hating each other or fighting over a guy. And that?s true of Hollywood and that?s part of the stereotype and cliché. And this is not. This is about four girls with independent problems dealing with very different issues. And when they come together, that?s where they?re core strength comes out."
Is "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" a Chick Flick?: "Well, yeah, you look at it and there?s a giant ass on the poster with pants. A girl?s butt and four girls like giggling in the poster. It?s very sweet. It?s very sweet but I think the most important word to use for this film is sophisticated. I think it?s a very sophisticated film.
This will be the fourth time I?ve seen this film. I?m very proud of it and I think it?s a great movie for women of any age. And almost every single man I?ve talked to has admitted to crying."
Summing Up "Sisterhood:" "I think at the end of the day this movie is respecting what we as women go through as we grow up. The experiences, what we deal with, other women, things about images, things that we deal with as women. This movie addresses that in a very appropriate and sincere way."
