  Spring break is an annual rite-of-passage for college students around the country looking to enjoy a much-needed vacation from their studies. Today the most popular destinations include spots in Mexico as well as Daytona Beach and Fort Myers Beach, Florida. But the tradition of young people flocking to beach-side destinations began after World War II in Fort Lauderdale. The city was a top draw until the 1980s, when area residents began protesting the partying and the city passed new ordinances restricting parties.
