The Characteristics of White Labrador Retrievers

    Physical Characteristics

    • White Labs generally grow to around 2 feet tall, with male dogs often growing slightly larger than females. Male dogs also tend to weigh more, typically topping off at 75 lbs., although some reach more than 100 lbs. Even a 50 or 60 lb. Labrador retriever is a large dog. In a smaller apartment, this sometimes causes problems because Labs are rather energetic.

    Personality

    • Labrador retrievers are active, loving and good work dogs. The dogs require daily exercise. If not exercised, Labs get restless and antsy, and sometimes destructive behavior is the result. A regular exercise regimen is paramount. It is also ideal for the dog to have some sort of backyard in which to play.

    Price

    • White Labrador retrievers sometimes cost up to $1,500, although prices vary widely. Along with the cost of the puppy itself are veterinarian costs, food costs and the cost of other equipment and possible training for the dog.

    Differences from Other Labs

    • There are not many differences between the types of Labrador retrievers. White Labs have the distinctive white fur, of course, but all Labs are known to be happy and energetic dogs. Another type of retriever is the golden retriever, and the main difference is the length of the fur. Labs have shorter fur than golden retrievers.

    Conclusion

    • Owning a puppy is a large undertaking. It is potentially expensive but the comfort and joy a puppy provides makes it worth the expense for many people. Remember that labs easily live to be 10 years old, so thoroughly consider all factors before purchasing a puppy.
