- 1). Download a screen-video capture program. You can find several of these programs for free at download.com, where both users and professional tech writers review each for their functionality and ease of use. If you're interested in a very user friendly program, try Easy Video Capture.
- 2). Install the screen-video capture program on your computer. Read the end-user agreement and click "next" to follow all steps in the Install Wizard until it prompts you to click "finish." If necessary, restart your computer.
- 3). Open the screen-video capture program you downloaded. Once it is running, minimize it by clicking on the "minimize" icon.
- 4). Launch Yahoo Instant Messenger and sign in to begin a session. If you plan on video-chatting, also launch your webcam program at this time.
- 5). Initiate a chat session using text, voice, or video. Find someone with whom you would like to chat and begin messaging, talking or video chatting.
- 6). Start recording the chat session. Enlarge the screen-video capture program that you had minimized. Then click on the "record" function. Resume chatting.
- 7). Stop recording when your chat session has ended. Save the video file to your hard drive by clicking CTRL-S (holding the CTRL key while also holding the "S" key on your keyboard). Name the file, then click "save" to store it.
