Repipe Ones Home With Pex Piping

Prior to the mid 1980s, the complete repiping of a home was an occasional thing. But then, a large number of homes reached 30 to 40 years age, and the old galvanized pipes that they had been built with reached a level of deterioration that became a real problem for the homeowners. It was found that with time, rust had built up inside the galvanized piping, reducing the volume of water that could get through to the fixtures. Rust and corrosion of the inside of the pipes and fittings also resulted in low water pressure at a faucet, shower or washing machine. As galvanized pipes age, rust and/or corrosion continues to build inside them, restricting the flow of water even more. There are also sudden changes in water temperature, especially with hot water, as when someone flushes the toilet while someone else is taking a shower. Rusty or discolored water is an indication that the stage of corrosion in the pipes is advanced while water leakages are almost certainly caused by the corrosion of the inferior brass fittings used originally.

To repipe ones home is the best solution to all the above mentioned problems. Repiping gives one great water pressure throughout the home, improves delivery of hot water, eliminates costly water damage repair bills and saves money on water lost to an inefficient system. Repiping is a complete solution that allows one to take a comfortable shower, wash dishes, wash laundry, and in fact, use all faucets and fixtures at the same time, all with no leaks or corrosion. But most importantly, repiping eliminates the inferior pumping system from ones home, giving one quality plumbing and peace of mind.

In recent years, PEX (crosslink polyethylene) repiping has become very popular, rapidly replacing copper piping in many residential applications. Copper piping has been around for many years now and has significantly replaced galvanized piping. Although it has many positive qualities, copper can corrode over time depending on the local water conditions. As such, the high water pH in the California region can lead to the corrosion of copper piping. However, PEX Repiping will not deteriorate or corrode in high water pH conditions. PEX Repiping is very durable and especially suited for interior applications. PEX is also flexible, allowing it to expand and contract with changing temperatures and allows for pressure balancing in ones home. It is easier and faster to install, requiring fewer fittings. Consequently, PEX Repiping is more affordable than Copper Repiping, especially as copper piping has become quiet expensive. PEX Repiping also has a very long expected, useful life-as much as 75 years. However, one should consult a repiping plumbing expert prior to making any decision as to which repiping solution is best suited for ones home.
