How to Crochet Wire Jewelry
- 1). Take a spool of jewelry wire and string beads onto it. The number of beads you string needs to be the number you plan to use for your jewelry project. For this example, we will use 10 beads. String the beads onto your wire and pull out a length of working wire to crochet with.
- 2). Use a metal crochet hook to make a length of chain stitches with your wire. The size of the hook you use affects the size of your stitches; this is the same with wire as it would be with yarn. The difference is that the wire can scratch your crochet hook, so you should use a sturdy one that you will reserve only for jewelry projects. Make approximately 20 chain stitches (or the number required to fit loosely around the circumference of your wrist) using a size "I" crochet hook.
- 3). Chain one and then make a single crochet stitch in the second chain from the hook. For the next stitch, you will make a beaded single crochet. To do this, insert the hook into the next chain and yarn over (or, in this case, wire over) to draw up a loop. Slide a bead up from the base of your wire spool to the position on the wire directly next to your hook. Pull the wire over your hook again and draw it through the two remaining loops on your hook. Now you have made a regular single crochet stitch but you have sandwiched a bead inside that stitch. Continue to alternate one regular single crochet stitch with one beaded single crochet stitch across the length of your foundation chain.
- 4). Chain one and turn, and make a row of single crochet stitches down the next row. Do not include any beads; you should have used them all in your previous row. At the end of the row, fasten off your work and clip the wire approximately 3 or 4 inches down. Use your fingers to wrap this extra wire around an open section of the bracelet a few times, then clip it again and bend the tip down with pliers to avoid sharp edges.
- 5). Attach a clasp or closure to the short ends of the bracelet. Use these to close the bracelet around your wrist, and wear it with pride.
