How to Convert a Table to a Sewing Table
- 1). Place a mouse pad on the table where you plan on putting the machine. This will help to maintain the condition of your dining room table by preventing scratching from the machine. If you do not have a mouse pad, you can use a table cloth.
- 2). Lay down a folded blanket on the chair you plan to sit on. When sewing, you want to be a bit higher up. Since a dining room table chair is made to sit low, a blanket is a comfortable way to give you more height.
- 3). Put a lamp or other light source nearby if you do not feel there is enough light at your dining room table. In order to sew well, you will need to be in a well-lit area.
- 4). Find an open area near the sewing table. Sewing will involve a lot of material such as pins and threads. Since your dining room tables are not equipped with drawers, add some to a nearby area. Many portable hard rubber or plastic drawers on the market can serve this purpose. Since a lot of them are also equipped with wheels, it is easy to move into storage or out of sight when you finish sewing.
- 5). Leave at least half of the table empty. Since the sewing machine and area will only take up close to half of the table space if properly set up to the side, the other half will serve as an area for you to measure and cut different fabrics as necessary.
