How to Nail Through Concrete Shingles

    • 1). Place the shingle on the wood batten (strips of wood on the rooftop for securing the shingles to) or plywood sheathing on your roof. Position the shingle so that the corrosion-resistant nails go into the shingle at least 1/2 inch above the tab slots placed beneath the horizontally running tar strip on the rear of the shingle. Place the nails between the tar strip and the tabs beneath. The nails should also go through the batten or sheathing beneath the shingle.

    • 2). Remove any nails left in the batten or sheathing before installing a replacement shingle. Place replacement shingles against the edge of the previously placed shingle and lined up with that shingle.

    • 3). Place four nails into each shingle, one on each end and one above each of the two cutouts, with a hammer or nail gun. Remove any bent nails and place a new nail in the position if necessary. Shingles should overlap with the joints staggered between rows to aid in water runoff. No nails should be visible once a new row of shingles has been installed.
