Appropriate Approaches of Treating Acid Refluxes
This article gives guidelines on how to treat acid refluxes. They are controllable. In some situations surgery is the only solution.

Description of The Acid Reflux Condition
The condition is also called the gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is evident when acidic juices from the stomach go up the esophagus causing a burning sensation on its lining. Sometimes the acids enter the mouth and give the mouth a sour taste. The irritations are what are commonly known as heartburn. However, it is possible to suffer from acid refluxes without necessarily experiencing heartburns.

What Is The Main Cause Of Acid Refluxes?
The stomach uses acidic gastric juices when digesting food. There is a muscle that prevents these juices from rising through the esophagus. This muscle is known as the lower esophageal sphincter muscle (LES). In some cases this muscle misbehaves and allows the acid to up - this is known as a reflux. When it gets into contact with the esophagus lining it produces the heartburn condition. The relaxation of the LES can be caused by several medical conditions for example, hiatal hernia. It can also be caused by unhealthy lifestyles such as overeating.

Main Symptoms of Acid Refluxes
There are a number of symptoms that are manifested by acid refluxes. The most common is sourness in the mouth. Sometimes one gets a burning discomfort in the the back of the throat and chest. Some people get excessive belching while others may have problems in swallowing food as a result of the throat muscles tightening. Sometimes the mouth has a foul smell and the voice is hoarse. Some of these symptoms are comparable to those of a heart attack. One should therefore be cautious] and consult a medical practitioner in case it portends a heart attack.

What Lifestyle Changes Are Necessary To Avoid Acid Refluxes?
Some people may be more inclined to suffer from acid refluxes due to their lifestyles. Lying down for a nap just after taking a meal should be avoided. Bending down after meals should also be avoided. Overeating and taking too much salt aggravates the condition.

Foods To Remove From Your Diet
A number of foods have been noted as causing or aggravating acid refluxes. These include acidic and fatty foods e.g. hamburgers and hotdogs. Citrus fruit juices and alcoholic drinks should be avoided. brussel sprouts, broccoli, onions, and spicy foods are also on the no-no list. Surprisingly chocolates, spearmint, peppermint are also culprits. Lastly all types of pepper should be avoided i.e. both black and red and not forgetting chili powder.

Management Of Acid Refluxes
Medical surgery is recommended for extreme cases. Antacids are available for treating mild conditions but they are not recommended as they may cause the stomach to produce more acid to compensate for neutralized acid. Natural solutions are recommended as they work better with other body functions. Finally a change in diet and in lifestyle may be necessary in order to avoid foods that exacerbate acid refluxes and habits that aggravate the condition.
