The Perils of Poor Corporate Event Management

Corporate event management is big business all over the world. With more and more companies looking to cut costs, it is wise to gamble with a reputation that's taken years to establish?

Using inexperienced staff to plan, organise and run corporate events may save money initially but could backfire in a big way and cost your company dearly.

Read below to find out some of the most common perils when taking a DIY approach to corporate events and conference management.

* Poor choice of venue

Choosing the right venue for your conference or corporate event can make or break it. The big advantage of using professional event organisers is they have experience and contacts within a large number of venues.

The venue needs to convey the right message for the event itself and the delegates you're planning to invite. If you're putting on a conference, event organisers will know which venues have the best reputation locally.

* Unreliable conference equipment

Even if the venue itself is perfect, renting conference equipment from an unknown company could be disastrous on the day. Corporate events are expected to be professional from start to finish so calling in event organisers who have their own trusted suppliers can make a real difference.

* Clashes with other events

Another important aspect of conference management is timing. If you're putting on an event yourself, do you know what other businesses in the area have planned for that day?

You don't want to arrange a conference on the same date much bigger companies are holding corporate events in the same area.

* Poor quality catering

As well as the venue, catering can help make or break corporate events. Even if your event is otherwise a success, if the food is poor, that's what people will remember most.

An outside conference management company may also be able to negotiate better rates with caterers they've used for other events.

* Loss of reputation

The four points above can all add up to a much greater loss for your company; loss of reputation.

Put yourself in your clients'  shoes; would you trust a company to deliver on a project if they couldn't manage to put a good corporate event or conference together?
