    • 1). Draw the outline of an object -- a flower or tree, for example -- in the center of the paper. Trace only one object per piece of paper -- or pattern. Leave at least one inch of negative space at the top and on the left side of the paper to complete steps two and three.

    • 2). Trace a long, horizontal line one inch down from the top of the pattern. The space above this line will hold your numerical markings. Trace a long, vertical line -- one inch removed -- down the left side of the pattern. The space to the left of this line will hold your alphabetical markings.

    • 3). Trace a second horizontal line -- one inch below the top line. Sketch a third horizontal line one inch below the second horizontal line. Continue all the way down the pattern.

    • 4). Trace a second vertical line -- one inch to the right of the first vertical line. Sketch a third vertical line one inch to the right of the second vertical line. Continue all the way across the pattern. The pattern is now complete with an object outline and grid boxes.

    • 5). Write numbers -- in sequential order -- at the top of the page. Skip the first box -- leaving it empty. Write a "1" in box two, a "2" and box three and so on until the top row is filled with numbers.

    • 6). Write letters -- in sequential order -- on the far left side of the page. Skip the top box. Write a "1" in box two, a "2" and box three and so on until the far left vertical row is filled with letters. You gird pattern is now complete. Repeat these steps for all additional patterns.
