    • 1). The toilet will have had a cold-water supply line and a drain, both of which you will make use of for the new shower. You will need to install a hot-water supply line from the nearest source to the shower. Because you are working in an existing bathroom, there should be a line available in the immediate area. Turn off the water supply and allow the hot-water line time to cool. You can then cut into the line and install a T fitting. From here, plump the line through the floor and walls to the shower stall. Take careful measurements to ensure the water lines match the holes on the shower stall.

    • 2). The drain for the toilet will be slightly different from the drain needed for the shower. The toilet drain will be approximately 12 inches from the wall. Your shower drain will need to be slightly farther away. On a 30-inch shower stall, the drain should be 15 inches from the wall. With a 36-inch stall, the drain should be 18 inches away. After making careful measurements, remove the flange from the top of the drainpipe. If necessary, cut the pipe back far enough to allow the installation of fittings to bring the old drain to the new location.

    • 3). With the new hot-water line and drain installed you are ready to set the shower stall in place. Once you make certain the water lines and drain line up properly you can secure the shower in place. Use 1 1/2-inch screws to secure the enclosure to wall studs. Install the faucet handles and drain cover, then frame in your shower stall. You are now ready to install the shower curtain or door to complete the installation. Turn on the water and check for leaks along the water lines and faucets. Allow the water to run for several minutes, then check for any leaks around the drain.
