How to Crochet a White Bedskirt
- 1). Measure your bed frame to determine the length and height of the desired bedskirt. The height should be measured from the top of the box springs to the floor. The length of the pieces should be measured from one side edge of the box springs to the other. If your bed does not have a footboard, measure around the box springs starting at the head of the bed on one side, going around the end of the bed, to the other side of the head of the bed. If your bed has a footboard, you will need to divide the measurements into 3 segments: 2 sides and 1 end. Measure each of these separately, from corner to corner.
- 2). Crochet a small swatch in your desired crochet pattern, to determine the number of stitches necessary for each segment of your bedskirt. For example, if your stitch swatch gives you 4 stitches per inch, and your bedskirt segment must be 80 inches in length, you will need a total of 320 stitches to get the proper length in your stitch pattern. For beds with no footboard, use the total measurement for all 3 sides, as this type of bedskirt will be crocheted in 1 piece.
- 3). Chain stitch the desired number of foundation stitches, and begin crocheting in your chosen stitch pattern.
- 4). Measure carefully as you crochet, finishing each segment as you reach the desired height of the bedskirt. Bind off and weave in all loose ends.
- 5). Cut the sheet to fit the top of your box springs, using the measurements for the crocheted pieces. This sheet will lay between the box springs and mattress, to hold the crocheted pieces in place.
- 6). Pin the crocheted pieces to the edges of the cut sheet, by overlapping the top edge of the crochet 1/2 inch onto the edge of the sheet, wrong sides together. Be sure to match the corners as you pin.
- 7). Sew the crochet to the sheet, using long hand stitching, and reinforcing by tying small knots in the thread every 6 inches. If desired, the unfinished fabric edge can be turned under while sewing, to encase the raw edge inside the seam.
- 8). Place your bedskirt on top of the box springs, being sure that the bedskirt corners are lined up with the box spring corners. Place the mattress on top of the box springs to secure the bedskirt.
