    Cash Aid

    • Income limits for cash aid with the Indiana TANF program are calculated based on household size and the combined income of everyone in the household. As of 2010, the gross monthly income limit for a household with one eligible family member is $286.75. Income limits and benefits increase with each eligible family member. The maximum monthly gross income for family of four is $712.25.

    Food Stamps

    • The maximum gross monthly income for food stamp assistance begins at $1,174 for households with one eligible person, and up to $4,822 for ten family members. Each subsequent household member increases the gross income limit by $406. Indiana food stamp applicants must also meet monthly net income limits. The maximum monthly net income for a one-person household is $903 with up to $3,709 per month for a family of ten. Add $312 net monthly for each additional family member.

    Medicaid

    • Indiana extends Medicaid benefits through the Hoosier Healthwise plan. Pregnant women and children under age 19 may be eligible for health coverage if their income does not exceed 150 percent of the federal poverty level. Low-income adults with children may be eligible if their income is at or below 100 percent of the FPL. Working disabled adults may qualify if their income does not exceed 350 percent of the FPL. Adults age 65 or older may be eligible if their monthly income does not exceed $552 or $829 for couples.

    Assets

    • Some public assistance programs have asset thresholds in addition to income limits. Excluding the value of your home, TANF eligibility limits assets to $1,000. Families, pregnant women and children have no asset restrictions for Medicaid. Adults age 65 and older may have resources valued at $1,500 for individuals, or $2,250 for couples. Food stamp aid has an asset limit of $2,000 for most households. Individuals age 60 or older and disabled persons may have up to $3,000 in resources and receive food stamps. Homes, insurance policies and household goods are not included in the food stamp asset limits.
