Quercetin is a bioflavonoid naturally derived from plants commercially available as a nutritional supplement with numerous health benefits. Quercetin appears to promote bone health, provide immune support, fight allergies, and relieve congestion. A recent study tested quercetin to a group of 93 overweight individuals who have high cardiovascular risk. After six weeks of testing lower doses of quercetin, it appeared to reduce blood pressure levels and inhibit damage to the bad LDL cholesterol. Because damage to LDL cholesterol is the leading cause of arterial plaque formation, the researchers concluded that quercetin can prevent the onset of cardiovascular diseases.

Before this groundbreaking study, it is unknown if quercetin supplements produce benefits to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Because of this study, people can now use quercetin supplements with confidence because of its potency for reducing the risks for cardiovascular health problems.

Quercetin supplements have shown the ability to relieve the signs of allergies like inflammation, itchiness, and sneezing. It works by preventing immune cells from the releasing the allergy-inducing chemical histamine. Patients suffering from joint health problems like rheumatoid and osteoarthritis can use quercetin supplements to achieve relief. Clinical evidences on quercetin suggest that it is used as an ingredient in the formation of the proteins collagen and fibronectin, essential components of healthy joints. Increased production of collagen is also linked with healthy skin, hair, and nails. 

Quercetin exhibits anti-ageing effects. It can help older women and men to achieve a younger looking appearance by making the skin naturally full and supple to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. Some skin care products like creams and lotions use quercetin as an active ingredient. The anti-inflammatory properties of quercetin can be very useful in relieving the painful symptoms of arthritis and pelvic inflammation. Like most flavonoids, quercetin has the potential to prevent some forms of cancer. Natural sources of quercetin like fruits and vegetables also contain other cancer-fighting nutrients. Quercetin supplements can be a practical and convenient way to get high concentrations of quercetin. 

There are so safety concerns on the use of quercetin supplements when it is taken at prescribed doses. Reports of chest pain, difficulty of breating, and skin rashes are associated with extremely high doses of quercetin supplements.
