Selecting Globe Light Bulbs

One of the many light choices available to consumers and businesses are globe light bulbs.
These are, as the name suggests, round shaped, like a globe.
They are used in many different ways, including in vanity strips, ceiling fans and enclosed outdoor fixtures.
Because they have a wide variety of uses, choose the features that are the most appropriate for your needs.
When buying any bulbs you should consider size, power, settings, and colour.
When you purchase fixtures that use globe light bulbs, the product specification sheet should tell you what size bulb to use.
Size is important for aesthetic as well as for safety.
Using the wrong size bulb not only takes away from the visual look, it may also create a hazard.
If you are unsure of the exact measurement of a globe light bulb, you can always take an old bulb to the store and compare sizes.
Another important consideration is power and again this information should be in the product specification sheet.
Correct power choice is even more important than size, because most fixtures are wired to accept a certain amount of wattage and exceeding it can cause an electrical fire or shortage.
Wattage is usually geared toward the light's uses.
Many people use globe light bulbs in vanity strips or decorative fixtures.
As several bulbs are used, each individual bulb is a low power, usually between nine and sixteen watts.
You will need higher wattages for enclosed outdoor fixtures where one globe light bulb is used.
Again, never exceed recommended wattage and ask for help if unsure.
Settings refer to the base of the bulbs and how they fit into the fixture.
Many globe light bulbs can be found in both the smaller candelabra base and the intermediate size base.
Obviously the base setting is important because if the bulb doesn't fit, it will not work.
Usually decorative fixtures use the candelabra base while standard fixtures use the intermediate base.
However, if you are having difficulty finding the correct bases, you may be able to purchase an intermediate base socket adapter.
A final feature to consider is the bulb color.
In most homes, this choice will be limited to clear and frosted globe light bulbs.
In situations where a brighter light is needed, such as a powder room, clear bulbs are a good choice.
In other areas where a soft, warm light is desired, you can choose frosted or Warm White light color.
Businesses such as bars and restaurants may have a livelier style and want to use globe light bulbs in a multitude of colors.
Designers should pay attention to how their lighting choices are received by the customers, as too much color can be overwhelming.
Globe light bulbs offer an interesting and fun way to decorate our homes and businesses.
With the wide selection available you can easily determine the right bulbs to use and should be able to find in stores or online.
And if you want energy efficient lighting, many manufacturers are now recreating energy saving versions of their globe lights.
