Families, lovebirds, teenagers, young men and women – all head to the seaside first thing when they get to legendary Rio! However, not to get marked as the foreigner one should really learn something from original citizens, which, by the way, call themselves the Cariocas. That was the first lesson for Rio visitors from abroad, and the second is to assimilate with the latter on the beach.

By that I mean one can be truly surprised to get familiar with unspoken rules of the way people go to the beach in Rio. And the local dress code might have a few tips to offer.

For starters, women wear exclusively bikinis, while men prefer boxers or shorts for surfing. The fair sex may express some complaints about the fit, shape, fatness and many other things women usually are screaming about, although that is not the ultimate goal of Rip beach style. It is inhere girls put on bikinis notwithstanding the state of their figure – thin and obese wander along the coastline and bath in this open as day swimming suits even after the sunset. There are no sizes, forms or any possible imperfections! And one should know that women in closed swimsuit would be definitely considered a tourists neglectful to common attitude.

The other thing, not compulsory yet widespread is topless that is recognized as bad manners. It is not accepted by Cariocas and, moreover, one can file a lawsuit for such an appearance.

When having opted the outfit, tourists should also pay attention to accessories, or to be more précised, to its absence. In particular, as a rule, people do not bring towels to rub off the water drops, to lay down or to dry out hair. As an alternative, one can rest on pareu, or go forwards and backwards along the beach, or enjoy the lounge. In addition to towels or any other kinds of beach bedding, there is no way to bring along food or drinks, especially in cans or paper packages. One may naturally ask why, as fruits are quite handy to take and delicious to eat after an swimming. Nonetheless, the cause is in the manner Cariocas live – why to save extra money on such little things, when there lots of salesmen walking amongst the people offering this or that fancy.

All in all, Cariocas got used not to spare not only on the beach wear, but the things they bring along. Perhaps, this is the only way to have unforgettable and extremely comfortable vacation on a beach. Welcome to Rio de Janeiro, so to say!
