How to Crochet a Doggy Sundress
- 1). Measure the circumference of your dog's chest around where you want the top of the sundress to sit and add 2 inches to this measurement. This will be the length of your sundress top. For instance, if your dog's chest is 16 inches, your measurement will be a total of 18 inches.
- 2). Start with a slipknot by wrapping your yarn in a loop and pushing the working end (the end attached to the ball of yarn) through the first loop to form a second loop. Tighten the first loop around the second by pulling the free end of the yarn and the second loop until the first loop is tight and forms a slipping knot. Put the loop of the slipknot over your crochet hook and tighten it around the large shaft of the hook.
- 3). Stitch a chain that is the length you measured in step one using a chain stitch. Wrap your working yarn around your crochet hook up the back and down the front. Use the hook end of the crochet needle to pull the wrapped yarn through the loop already on the needle and tighten the new loop onto the shaft of the crochet hook forming a chain. Continue chain stitching in this method until you have a chain that is the same length as the measurement you took in Step 1. Chain three additional stitches.
- 4). Turn your work. Double crochet stitch in each chain stitch starting in the third stitch from your hook. Wrap your working yarn around your crochet hook up the back and down the front and push your hook end through the chain stitch. Wrap your working yarn around your crochet hook up the back and down the front and pull the hook back through the chain stitch. Wrap your working yarn around your crochet hook up the back and down the front and pull the loop through the first two stitches on your crochet needle. Wrap your working yarn around your crochet hook up the back and down the front and pull the loop through the last two stitches on your crochet needle. Continue in this manner in each chain stitch until you reach the end of your chain.
- 5). Chain three stitches. Turn your work. Double crochet stitch in each crochet stitch from step four, continuing until the end of your piece.
- 6). Repeat Step 5 until you have the length you would like the top of your sundress to be. This measurement will be roughly 1/3 of your dog's body length measured from the area on the back, where the chest circumference was taken, to your dog's bum.
- 7). Chain three stitches, turn your work. For this row, double crochet stitch three times in each stitch to create the first row of your ruffly sundress skirt.
- 8). Chain three stitches and turn your work. Continue double crocheting in each stitch as in Step 5 until your sundress skirt is twice the length of your sundress top.
- 9). Finish the skirt by cutting your working yarn and pull the end through the loop on you hook, tightening the loop into a knot. Weave in the end of your yarn.

Sew a hook-and-loop fastener to the open sides of the sundress top, overlapping the top closure by 1 inch. The closure side will fit snugly under your dog's chest and hold the dress firmly in place. - 11
Chain stitch one strap on each side of the sundress top to wrap from the back, over the legs of your dog, and to the front of the sundress top to keep the dress in place. Tie off all of the ends and weave them back into your work to finish the dress.
