  Forests once covered eastern England's Suffolk and Essex Counties. A small part of those ancient woodlands remains in Wolves Wood, two miles east of the Suffolk market town of Hadleigh. Twenty minutes from Hadleigh is the coastal town of Manningtree, where England's 17th-century Witchfinder General Matthew Hopkins ordered suspected witches thrown into the River Stour. • Ten minutes west of the Hadleigh center, the Hintlesham Hall Hotel stands on 175 serene acres with its own 18-hole PGA-championship golf course.
