How to Compare Soft-Sided Luggage
- 1). Examine the material. Ballistic nylon is very durable. You want material that won't rip easily and is less likely to stain.
- 2). Check the zipper. Metal zippers with teeth are the least likely to break open. The zipper pull should be sturdy and not bend easily.
- 3). Look at the stitching. The zippers and the material can be durable, but if the stitching is shoddy the bag may still come apart. Pull at the seams a few places to make sure the bag is sewn well.
- 4). Check for padding. Padded bags are a little more protective than unpadded, though they will also weigh a bit more.
- 5). Test the handle. If the suitcase has a retractable handle slide it open and closed a few times to be sure it doesn't stick.
- 6). Take it for a spin. If the bag has wheels, pull it around for a few seconds to make sure the wheels function properly. Look at the wheels themselves to see if they are well-made and firmly attached.
