What Type of Lawn Scarifier is the Best?

There have been many attempts throughout the years to help aid the process of lawn scarification and some have been well thought out and have improved the process by quite a lot. It has still always been looked upon as a tough job though, due to the fact that it is a physically demanding job.

The first tool used was a good old garden rake. This is what made the job physically demanding as you had to rake the topsoil to remove thatch and moss. Normally people would do this in autumn to prevent too much build up of leaves on the grass and help it to stay alive over the seasons.

As many rakes were made of wood, they didn't last a great deal of time and the handles needed replacing quite a bit. This is when carbon steel rakes were created and better materials were used to prolong the life a bit more.

The mechanical lawn scarifier was also created and this was much easier to use than a rake as it was on wheels and you could just push it. It is pushed across a lawn and it drags metal spikes across the floor digging up the topsoil as you go, which means you can cover more distance over time.

But these days, the best lawn scarifier is probably the electric one as the blade size can be adjusted on many of these and give you whatever depth you require, making it easier for you to scarify your lawn. The deeper you go with a lawn scarifier the better chance you have of grass developing stronger roots.

All of these ways are still used today to with good results. If you fancy the exercise just grab your rake, but if you want things easier check out the electric scarifiers because what's best is really up to you.

These days lawn scarifiers are becoming more and more popular to help gardeners maintain their lawns.  There are a wide variety of models by different manufacturers for you to choose from.  They are designed with your convenience in mind and will help you a lot.
