Cerebral Palsy Organization
Updated June 25, 2014.
The Cerebral Palsy Organization was founded in 1997 by attorney Kenneth A. Stern. After years of representing parents of children with cerebral palsy, he addressed a need of providing a central website that could provide information on all topics related to the condition. The website, My Child at Cerebral Palsy.org, provides parents and caregivers with information starting with the initial diagnosis to special education and finances.
What is Cerebral Palsy
According to the Mayo Clinic, cerebral palsy is “a disorder of movement, muscle tone or posture that is caused by injury or abnormal development in the immature brain, most often before birth.”
Children may show signs of cerebral palsy at birth, or they may begin to show symptoms in the years prior to attending school. A child may have other health problems and learning disabilities in addition to cerebral palsy, which may develop in the years following the initial diagnosis. Parents and caregivers can receive information from My Child at Cerebral Palsy.org by requesting the My Child Starter Kit for newly diagnosed children, or by visiting the website to view an extensive list of available resources.
