How to Separate Send & Receive in Outlook Express
- 1). Open Outlook Express on your computer. Usually, you can do so by clicking the Outlook Express icon on your desktop or toolbar, but different users and different platforms may require other methods to locate and activate the software.
- 2). Right-click (click the right mouse button while allowing the cursor to hover over) the "Send and Receive All" icon. The icon looks like a stamped envelope with a square behind it; usually, it is located just between the "X" (Delete) icon and the open book (Address Book) icon on the left side of the toolbar at the top of the screen. Click on "Customize" on the menu that appears.
- 3). Click on "Send/Recv" in the pane beneath the caption that reads "Current Toolbar Buttons," then click the "Remove" button to the left of the pane. Click on "Close."
- 4). Click on "Tools" on the top tool bar, then click on the tab labeled "General." Under "Send And Receive," click on the checkmark in the box in front of the words "Send And Receive Messages at Startup" to remove it. Click on the "Apply" button in the bottom right corner, then click on "OK" to close the window. This will prevent the program from doing an automatic send and receive when you launch it.
- 5). Click on "Tools," then "Send And Receive," then click on "Send All" to send your email messages, or "Receive All" to retrieve your email from the server.
