    • 1). Mount the transmitter. The transmitter requires a power source and close proximity to an outside wall for connection to the correction wires. Most kits require a 220-volt power source. This type of plug is most often found in the garage of U.S. homes. Use the drill and mounting screws to hang the transmitter on a wall near the power source.

    • 2). Drill a small hole under the transmitter to allow the two correction wires to pass from outside and connect to the transmitter.

    • 3). Mark the boundaries of the invisible fence with spray paint or chalk. Use a shovel or lawn edger to cut a trench along the boundaries you set. Consult the kit instructions for the recommended depth of the trenches.

    • 4). Lay the correction wire in the trenches. The wire must be tight but not stretched and the corners need to be rounded to avoid damaging the wire by bending it too far.

    • 5). Attach the wires to the transmitter as indicated in the instruction manual. Plug the transmitter in once the wires are securely attached and turn the unit on. Most units have an indicator light to let you know that the fence is functioning properly.

    • 6). Charge the dog collar according to the instructions provided in the kit. This usually consists of placing the collar in a charging cradle on or near the transmitter.

    • 7). Test the collar. Remove the charged collar and approach the boundaries you set with the correction wire. Hold a tester light to the leads of a collar designed to work with voltage correction. As you approach the wires, the tester light will turn on, indicating that the collar is sending voltage to the leads. Collars that work with aversive sounds will beep or otherwise make noise as you approach the boundaries.

    • 8). Unplug the transmitter and bury the wires with the dirt or sod you removed to create the trench. Plug in the transmitter and check the indicator light to make sure the wires have not been broken and test the collar again. Insert the flags that came with the kit at the indicated intervals. These flags show the dog the new boundary visually until it becomes accustomed to the new system.

    • 9). Place the collar on your dog and follow the instructions in the kit to begin training it to respect the invisible radio dog fence.
