About Bullying

I have been a target of bullying.
I endured the name calling, the isolation, the fun making and all the things that accompany bullying.
This topic is close to my heart and I will do whatever it takes to prevent another person from being bullied.
Who is a bully? In my mind a bully is someone who speaks ill about another person, who spreads rumors, who hits, pushes or trips a peer, who makes fun of another person's skin color or any other differences and one who isolates others.
Bullying falls into categories: physical, verbal and cyber.
I have been bullied both physically and verbally.
Any type of bullying hurts.
It hurts really badly.
I believe that bullies are cowards.
They try to gain control.
They appear to be aggressive in order to gain that control.
Some people bully others because they themselves have been bullied at home so when they are out they try to get the upper hand.
I look different.
My skin color is brown and I have several physical disabilities.
I was a target from the very beginning of my school life.
Students realized that I was not very quick to respond to questions and made fun of me in the playground.
They laughed at me and called me stupid.
I also saw students whisper among themselves as I passed by.
Even when I am shopping I see people staring at me.
It is very uncomfortable to experience this on a daily basis.
There were many times I could have fought back but my parents always told me that I should walk away from those situations.
They encouraged me to talk about my feelings and let them know whenever I was bullied.
I know people are still bullied.
Students talk to me after my presentations and describe the pain they experience.
I always tell them to seek help when it happens and that they should never be afraid to do so.
When I was younger, I was unable to cough.
A machine did that for me.
That created a great deal of attraction and one more reason to be a target.
A group of students took the machine and I was unable to cough up my mucus.
They went as far as destroying the piece of equipment.
They did not think of the consequences of their action because I could have died.
I was rushed to the hospital for the mucus to be manually extracted.
Those boys probably thought it was fun at the time but their actions were that of a bully.
People who look on as bullies bully, are just as guilty as the person who is doing the bullying.
They are called bystanders.
Bullies need help.
Those who are bullied need help as well.
Let me share my inner feelings about bullying with you.
Hear more about my experiences and I will be able to make a difference in the lives of those who are bullied, reach out and touch those who bully and nudge the bystander to become assertive and intervene.
