    • 1). Press the "Settings" icon, then the "Wireless" tab and tap an available Wi-Fi network to connect your iPad to a Wi-Fi network. If you're using your iPad at home and have a wireless network, connect to it. Otherwise, visit a public area that offers free Wi-Fi, such as a coffee shop.

    • 2). Press the "App Store" icon to begin browsing hundreds of thousands of available applications. Use the menu across the bottom of the screen to view featured apps, browse by category, view the most popular apps or search by keyword or title.

    • 3). Tap on any app in which you're interested to read more about it. Note whether it's free or whether it costs money to download. Press the price icon or "Free," then "Install" to download the app to your iPad. If you're required to pay, log in to your iTunes account to pay for it.

    • 4). Tap on the "iTunes" app to browse available movies, music, TV shows, audiobooks and podcasts. Press on specific titles to learn more about each file, and download, if desired. Movies, songs, TV shows and audio books require a fee to download, while podcasts are typically free.
