The Spectrum of Statin Myopathy
The Spectrum of Statin Myopathy
Statins are one of the most commonly used agents for treatment of several lipid disorders. As a result, they are used very frequently for prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. Although they are generally well tolerated, a significant number of patients discontinue their use due to intolerance. Rarely, statins cause a severe and potentially life-threatening myotoxicity leading to rhabdomyolysis and renal failure, which if untreated can result in death.
