How To Relieve A Headache?
Headaches are usually caused by anxiety, tension, poor body posture or tight muscles in the neck. They can also be caused by bad weather, flu and PMS. Here are some ways that you can do to relieve a tension headache. If the problem persists, seek medical help.
1. If you have the habit of using the computer for a long time, take a 10-15 minutes break every hour. Close your eyes and rub them gently for a couple of minutes.
2. Using essential oils. Essential oils such as Lavender, Ylang Ylang & Frankincense can help to alleviate stress. Add a few drops to bath water, or simply use an aromatherapy diffuser.
3. Using a footbath. Try immersing your feet in a bucket of hot water for 15 minutes. Hot water dilates the blood vessels and increases blood flow to the feet.
4. Drinking herbal teas. They can help to ease the pain of a tension headache. You can either choose lavender, chamomile or ginger. Lavender and chamomile help to ease physical tension while ginger decreases the production of pain-causing chemicals.
5. Applying an ice pack to your neck, forehead or temples. The coldness constricts blood vessels in the head, reducing the volume of blood flow and thereby reducing the pain.
6. Drinking a cup of coffee. Caffeine helps relieve pain, and is actually found in some painkillers. However, if you are allergic to caffeine, don't try this. It will worsen your headache, obviously.
7. Massage away the pain. Massage your temples in a circular motion using your thumbs. Another effective way is to massage the position between the thumb and the index finger. Grip that position between your other thumb and index finger and press lightly. You should feel a little pain at that area.
