Bank Account

• 1). Apply for an account at your local bank. This can be a savings account or a checking account, depending upon your personal preference.
  
  
• 2). Locate your account number and your bank's routing number. Generally, the account number and routing number will be located on the bottom of your check or deposit slip. The routing number is usually the middle number on the bottom of the check. However, this may vary by bank.
  
  To be sure that you have the right account number and routing number, consult with a bank representative. This will ensure that your tax refund is not deposited into the wrong account.
  
  
• 3). Enter the account number and routing number in the section of your tax return that asks how you would like to receive your refund.
  
  

Prepaid Account

• 1). Apply for a prepaid debit card that allows direct deposits. Companies that provide these kind of cards include RushCard and Green1040.
  
  
• 2). Contact the issuer of the debit card to get the account number and routing number that is required for direct deposits.
  
  
• 3). Enter the account number and routing number in the designated fields of your income tax return.
  
  

E-File Debit Card

• 1). File your taxes through a company that provides you with a debit card when you file electronically. A couple of the Companies that provide debit cards include TurboTax and H&R Block.
  
  
• 2). Advise the company representative that you would like to deposit your tax refund onto the debit card that is provided by the company. You will receive your card in person or through the mail (exact method will vary by company).
  
  
• 3). Wait to receive your refund. Your tax refund will automatically be direct deposited onto the card when your refund date arrives.
