When Eskom announced that it intends to increase prices of energy prices, many South Africans cried. It was very obvious many households in the country are struggling to keep up with their energy costs. In the last five years or so some of these people have tried to find alternative means of energy supply. Some of these alternatives included the use solar systems.

Unfortunately, the use of systems of that nature is inherently expensive to set up initially, even the long term benefit is undeniable. Very few South Africans will have the means to afford such an initial cost. There is no doubt that the use of insulation is an efficient, effective and affordable option for many households within the income brackets where most South Africans find themselves.

In this article, I focus on a number of issues one must think through when choosing a company to carry out an insulation project for you.

The first to think through is the types of insulation mechanisms available on the market. All types of insulation have its own advantages and disadvantages. Additionally, each one of them is not used for the situations. While some are more effective for walls, others are more effective for insulating the roof, for instance.
It is important to first assess your needs before you can choose the best solution to meet your requirements. In most cases, it will take someone with a technical eye to do such as an assessment of your house or building and come up with best possible recommendations. Many companies will be willing to do the assessment for free. That is something to look out for.

It is also important to consider the health implications of the type of insulation selected. Some insulation applications make use of chemicals that pose health risks to the inhabitants of the house or building. The general recommendation from experts in the industry is to go for eco-friendly insulation projects. So far many of the will specifically mention cellulose insulation as the way to go. There are a number of reasons for this kind bias towards cellulose insulation. Of course the first reason is because of its eco-friendliness.

The second reason is because of its effectiveness in preventing air infiltration. Cellulose insulation can help home owners reduce energy consumption by 20 percent to 30 percent, even though other forms of insulation can help save on 10 percent of energy cost.

Additionally, the application of borate helps prevent the spread of fire during a fire rash.
