- Less serious side effects include stomach pain, nausea, dizziness, headache, sweating and weight loss. Nervousness and insomnia are the most common minor side effects and can be resolved by altering how the drug is administered.
- Allergic reactions to Ritalin can occur, so if you experience hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, seek emergency medical attention. Other serious side effects that require medical attention include rapid heartbeat, feeling faint, fever accompanied by sore throat, headache and a rash, aggression, bruising easily and high blood pressure. Stop taking Ritalin and call a doctor immediately if any of these side effects occur.
- Always discuss your medication options with your doctor before making a decision. Tell your doctor about all of the medications you are taking, along with any medical conditions that you may have. A pharmacist can answer some of these questions as well.
