"X-Files" to Return as a Miniseries
Thirteen years after it finished its nine-season run on Fox and seven years after its second and final big screen adaptation, I Want to Believe, The X-Files has been brought back from the dead. For now. Fox has ordered a six-episode "limited series" continuation of the storyline about FBI special agents investigating paranormal phenomena. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who starred in the iconic roles of Agents Mulder and Scully, respectively, will return to star, although it's unclear if the plot will pick up the ongoing alien-centric story spun in the original series and continued in the first X-Files film or be more of a standalone project like the underwhelming I Want to Believe.

However, series creator Chris Carter provided a hint by describing it as "six stories," which implies it might be more of a series of standalone episodes. The show will begin production this summer, but there's no premiere date set -- although 2016 seems logical.
