How to Reformat an XP Disk
- 1). Insert the Windows XP installation CD into your computer's disk drive.
- 2). Reboot your computer by clicking "Start," "Turn Off Computer" and "Restart."
- 3). Press "Enter" at the Welcome to Setup screen.
- 4). Read the license agreement and press "F8" if you agree.
- 5). Bypass repairing the existing Windows XP system by pressing "Escape."
- 6). Select the Windows XP partition in the list with the arrow keys and press "Enter."
- 7). Select "Format the partition by using the NTFS file system (Quick)" with the arrow keys and press "Enter."
- 8). Accept the default language options by clicking "Next" at the Regional and Language Options screen that appears after the computer automatically reboots.
- 9). Type your name and organization name into the "Name" and "Organization" boxes and click "Next."

Type the product key from your Windows XP CD case into the "Product Key" boxes and click "Next." If your computer came installed with Windows XP, the product key may be printed on a sticker on your computer's case. - 11
Type a name for the computer into the "Computer Name" box. - 12
Configure an administrator password by typing it into the "Administrator Password" and "Confirm Password" boxes and clicking "Next." - 13
Set your computer's clock on the Date & Time Settings screen and click "Next." - 14
Use typical network settings by clicking "Next" twice. - 15
Click "OK" when the Display Settings dialog appears. - 16
Click "OK" in the Monitor Settings dialog. - 17
Click "Next" at the Welcome to Microsoft Windows screen. - 18
Click "Help Protect My PC by Turning on Automatic Updates Now" and click "Next." - 19
Accept the default network settings by clicking "Next." - 20
Activate Windows by clicking "Next." - 21
Skip optional registration by clicking "No, Not at this Time" and clicking "Next." - 22
Create user accounts for the users that will use the computer by typing their names into the boxes on the Who Will Use This Computer screen, click "Next" and "Finish." - 23
Install drivers for your computer's hardware from your computer manufacturer's website or included driver CD.
