How to Make a Bead Loom With All Thread
- 1). Cut a hole near the top edge of the long side of a shoe box with a utility knife, placing the hole about 3 inches from one of the short panels of the box. Make sure the hole is slightly wider than the thickness of one of the All Thread rods. Cut another hole across from the first one, on the opposite side of the shoe box. Cut two more holes 3 inches away from the other short panel of the shoe box to complete a total of four holes.
- 2). Cut a 3-inch-long by 1/4-inch-high horizontal slit in the middle of either short panel of the shoe box with a utility knife.
- 3). Slip an all thread rod through the holes across one end of the shoe box so that the rod sits in the holes and extends across the opening. Insert the other rod through the holes on the other end of the shoe box.
- 4). Place a 3-inch-thick ball of air-dry molding clay on the end of the threaded rod against the outside of the shoe box to keep it from sliding out of the hole or moving around as you work. Do this to each side of both rods. Wait 48 hours for the clay to dry completely.
- 5). Tie the end of the beading thread around the notch of one of the rods, close to the inside of the panel of the shoe box. Bring it across the opening of the shoe box, and wrap it around the notch on the rod on the opposite end so that the thread is straight.
- 6). Feed the thread through the slit on the short panel to which you are closest, and wrap it around so you can feed it through the slit on the other end. The thread is now back on the side where you started where you can wrap it around the rod on the notch next to where you started the thread. Continue wrapping the thread in this manner until all notches are filled, then tie the thread around the rod between the last notch and the side of the box to finish.
- 7). Wrap it around the next notch and repeat the process for how wide you want the bracelet or other beaded jewelry item to be. Make sure the threads are lined up next to each other neatly to make up the warp threads. Each warp thread should be about 1/16-inch away from the last, stretching across the opening of the shoe box.
