In addition to these traditional, four-year colleges, Atlanta is also home to a number of private and public vocational schools. - Paul Mitchell the School Atlanta is a private institution located to the northwest of downtown near the Georgia Tech campus and the Knight Park neighborhood. Affiliated with the Paul Mitchell styling product company, the school provides a vocational training program in cosmetology, which allows students to fulfill the educational requirements for a state license in the field. The program requires 1,500 hours of training to complete with students studying full time for about 11 months. The program covers cutting, coloring, texturizing, customer retention and business ethics. A salon at the school allows students to gain hands-on work experience with paying clients. The school gives students opportunities to style hair for photo shoots in order to build personal portfolios and offers job placement assistance for all graduates.
