    Converting TOD to MPEG

    • The process of converting TOD files is an easy process that requires a minimal amount of time and effort. There are a limited number of tutorials on how to do this operation. An in-depth, detailed tutorial isn't needed since the process is such a simple one. To start with, it includes a program called MPEG Streamclip, which can be downloaded for either the Mac or Windows. (The link to download it can be located in the References section.)

The first thing you need to do is to locate the TOD files that you had previously transferred to your computer from your JVC Everio. If you have not yet done so, transfer them now by plugging your camera into the USB port and turning your camera on. A file transfer program will start, asking you where you want to download/transfer your files to. Choose a location for these files that is easily accessible for finding them later.

The second thing you need to do is to download MPEG Streamclip. After downloading, double-click on the downloaded file to launch and install the program. Follow the instructions that come up. The new program will launch automatically. Click on the "File" option on the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click on "Open files" in the drop-down menu. This will cause a new window to pop up that will prompt you to find the files that you wish to convert. Find the TOD files that you previously placed in an accessible spot. Select them and click the open button to load them into the program. Once in the window, you can also view it before converting it, as MPEG Streamclip is also a media player.

Finally, click on the "File" menu one more time and choose to "Export to Quicktime." Once selected, a box will appear that offers you several options. You can choose to change the quality of the exported, converted file, or you can change the file type that you want to make the TOD file into. You can also gear the new file specifically for an editing system or media player. There are many options to choose from, so look through them all. Once you've selected your options, press the "Create movie" button, and your conversion will start automatically. When it's done, it will tell you that the file is complete, and you can view the new file in the folder that you saved it to. Play it and verify that it converted properly.
