    Legal Predators

    • Indiana predator hunters may legally take coyotes, foxes, raccoons, opossums and skunks. The season for hunting coyote and skunk is October 15 through March 15 each year. The season for hunting raccoon and opossum is November 15 through January 31. The hunting season for fox is October 15 through January 31.

    License

    • Predator hunters must have a valid small game hunting license to harvest predators.

    Calling

    • Using mouth operated or electronic calls which mimic the sound of wounded prey animals or the sound young predators make when in danger is a popular method of attracting foxes, coyotes and raccoons close enough to shoot.

    Hounding

    • Hunting using hounds trained to locate, trail and hold predators at bay is a popular and effective method of pursuing coyotes, foxes, raccoons and opossums.

    Tracking

    • Tracking coyotes and foxes by following fresh tracks in snow is a challenging but effective way of getting in shooting range.

    Shooting Equipment

    • There are no restrictions on the type of shooting equipment allowed. Most hunters use rimfire or high-powered rifles, shotguns or archery equipment.
